ACSF Level 4 is the advanced-performance level of the Australian Core Skills Framework for reading and writing: complex texts, unfamiliar contexts, and language analysed rather than just understood. It is the standard higher-level entry tests draw on, including a large share of the LANTITE (the teaching profession's literacy test).

What ACSF Level 4 reading and writing means

At Level 4 you can read complex texts with embedded ideas, evaluate arguments and evidence, and compare how different texts treat the same topic.
You can analyse register, tone and audience, and recognise persuasive and structural techniques a writer is using.
You can write extended, well organised texts that sustain an argument, with precise vocabulary and controlled grammar.

What is ACSF Level 4 literacy?

Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework describes advanced reading and writing: evaluating complex texts and arguments, analysing register and technique, and writing extended, well organised texts with precise language.

Does LANTITE use ACSF Level 4?

LANTITE draws on ACSF Levels 2 to 5, with a large share of its literacy questions at Level 4. The full practice papers on this site mirror that distribution.

Should Level 3 candidates practise at Level 4?

Yes, deliberately. Training a level above your target makes the real test feel easier. Police and FRV candidates who are comfortable at Level 4 have headroom, because those tests top out at Level 4.
